“These Hides are lit!”

This Goat hide was veg tanned and hand tie dyed, then it was manipulated by the Artist Olivia Virta to look like flames. This hide was created using mixed materials and ideal for someone looking to make a statement. (As a disabled artist, Ms. Virta is thrilled to donate a portion of her art sales to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.)

Pergamena’s new tie dye leather line is just the latest addition in our collection of sustainable and memorable material. Each of these hides are byproducts of the meat and dairy industry and normally end up in a bio waste landfill. But at Pergamena, these hides are given a funky, new life as tie-dyed leather. First, we veg tan the hides using our chestnut mix then once the hide is tanned, we tie it up by hand and send it through our dying process. Once the hide is dyed, we untie it and hang it up to dry for a final time.

This is NOT leather that has a tie dye pigment added on top, these are true one of a kind tie dyed hides. Creating these hides takes a lot of hands on work, so we will only be offering our tie dyed hides in limited batches throughout the year. As with all handmade materials there will be natural variations from hide to hide. We offer these tie dyed hides as they are, each unique and memorable but not necessarily duplicable. We have found techniques to be able to tie dye cow, calf, hair sheep, goat and ostrich as well as being able to dye material ranging from 1oz all the way up to 5oz. We are continuing to develop new techniques and tricks every day to be able to offer you the best in bespoke leather.
