Our Process
Vegetable tanning - the process of using plant extracts to preserve animal skins - is one of the oldest forms of making leather known. At our tannery, we take hides sourced or supplied from North America, clean, and de-hair them. Then we tan them in the unique process we have developed, mechanically soften them, and add color in a dye bath. Finally, depending on the intended use, we can finish, texture, and any number of other methods to manipulate the material to look a certain way, or just leave it to weather as classic veg-tan leather is known to do
Expect Quality
Everything we produce is made by hand. Thus, we have pride in our materials and take every precaution to make sure our customers know exactly what to expect with their orders.
As a natural material, colors of our leathers and parchments will vary from batch to batch and year to year as dyes and production processes fluctuate. If you need specific colors matched or made, contact us directly for custom pricing or sorting.
If you have any questions or concerns about what you received, send us a message or give us a call, and we will be glad to help.
Custom Orders
We are always open to working on new and unique projects. So, if you have a specific need for parchment or leather that we don't already produce, contact us with your ideas, and we will see what we can do for you.

We will work to do our best in producing a new or custom material. However, in the event the delivered material is not what was desired, custom orders are not returnable except for exchanges or credit.
Order Fulfillment
The majority of what we produce here at Pergamena is at least partially made-to-order. This means that, in most cases, we will fulfill your order within two weeks of it being placed.
Shipping options only reflect how fast an order will arrive once shipped, not how fast an order can be fulfilled.
However, if we don't have your material in stock, and expect to take longer to prepare it, we will let you know as soon as possible about the delay and the expected ship time.
If you need an order faster than our estimated 3-week window, we can attempt to rush your order and have it ready to ship within two weeks. These orders are subject to a 20% rush fee.
Returns and Exchanges
If for any reason the material we send you will not work for your purpose, we would welcome the opportunity to help find a more suitable product. However, if an exchange is not possible, we are also amenable to partial or full refunds of the original amount within two weeks of receiving your order.
Returns are subject to up to a 15% restocking fee.
*All sales are final on sale items, one-off leather, leather splits, and scrap material.*
