With lots of support from our local communities, farms, and business partners, Pergamena creates a use for hides previously destined for renderers or the trash heap. We source hides from many farms in the Hudson Valley and beyond. These farms use traditional grazing practices that are part of a network of grazing lands, which represent an essential component for long-term carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas mitigation; fighting climate change is a significant and tangible way. In addition, the animals are treated humanely, respected, and cared for by farmers who love what they do and care about continuing the traditions of working with the earth, celebrating biodiversity, and using practices that can be sustained for future generations.
