Calf

  • Furniture Calf

As a surface material, parchment and vellum convey subtleness and solidity less like leather and more like stone thanks to their crisp edges and depth of character.  As an applied panel material, parchment can be used as cabinet doors, desk and table tops, and headboards, not to mention wall panels in room interiors.  Its sometimes translucency makes it a class material for lampshades, light sconces, and room screens.  Contact us to learn about our beautiful and unique range of parchments and ask us how we can advise you on the right material to make your parchment paneling or lighting project unforgettable.  We also offer manufacturing capabilities if you are looking for assistance with furniture or interior projects.

  • Binding Calf

Parchment as a binding material has been around for thousands of years.  Its density, flexibility and toughness give it a surprising strength.  For a material that is only as thick as a few sheets of paper, it is remarkable in its ability to withstand wear and maintain its flexibility as a cover and hinge material.  It can also be dyed and tooled to produce stunning results.  We pride ourselves on offering parchments in keeping with historical and traditional standards, as well as some unorthodox offerings.  This gives us a range of parchments that appeals to conservators and modern book artists alike that you will find nowhere else.

  • Binding Uterine Calf

Uterine calf, otherwise known as "slunk," is considered one of the finest hides available from which to make parchment.  Having not been exposed to any outside elements, the hides are very smooth and fine-grained, and feature a unique nap, or surface texture, not found on older calf.
